Radiometric Calibration Engineer



The Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking a Radiometric Calibration Engineer to work in the area of characterization and calibration of electro-optical sensors with an emphasis on the infrared and visible optical spectrums. Entry, intermediate, and senior level positions being considered.
Entry level – Minimum requirements
·    BS in Engineering, Optics, Physics,  Mathematics or related  fields
·    Strong technical aptitude and/or experience with data analysis and understanding physical measurements
·    Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team
·    Strong organization and time management skills
·    Strong oral and written communication skills with technical presentation experience
·    Strong computer skills
·    Technical software development experience
Intermediate level – Minimum requirements in addition to Entry level minimum requirements
·    2 - 10 years of related experience
·    Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in related field or equivalent experience
·    Interdisciplinary familiarity of electro-optical systems including optical, electrical, software, thermal and mechanical disciplines
·    Experience with data acquisition techniques, software, and instrumentation
·    Experience with data analyses and relating results to physical quantities
·    Written report and 1st author professional paper generation experience
·    Oral and written communication skills with proven experience giving technical PowerPoint presentations
·    Demonstrated technical leadership experience  
Senior Level – Minimum requirements in addition to Intermediate level minimum requirements
·    10+ years of related experience
·    Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in related field
·    Experience mentoring younger engineers and technical staff
·    Extensive experience with performing technical trade-studies including technical, cost and schedule considerations
·    Strong mix of technical skills and technical management/leadership experience
·    Strong system engineering skills (coordinate and lead engineering teams)
·    Ability to work multiple tasks in parallel
Desired qualifications
·    Experience with Fourier Transform Spectrometers, blackbodies, optical alignment test equipment, theodolites, and optical wavefront interferometers.
·    Experience with data analysis tools such as IDL and/or MATLAB
·    Experience with operation of vacuum chambers and cryogenics
·    Proficient with LabView development  and demonstrated ability to communicate with hardware and facilitate data acquisition
·    Experience with optical analysis tools such as Code V, ZEMAX, and/or OSLO
·    Digital signal processing  experience
·    Experience with developing test/calibration plans and data acquisition procedures.
·    Experience with test conduct, analyzing test data, performing oral presentation of test status and results, and producing a formal calibration report
·    Understanding system engineering processes
